TutorGH (“we”) is a free study app for Senior High School students in Ghana: curriculum lessons, WASSCE-style practice questions, mock exams and an AI tutor. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who helps us process it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. Questions? Email yawfrancisodoom@gmail.com.

In short

  • You can use TutorGH without an account or giving your name.
  • We do not sell your information and we do not show adverts.
  • We do not use advertising trackers. We use Google Analytics only to count visits, with advertising features switched off.
  • We collect only what the app needs to work: marking your practice, keeping the free AI tutor fair for everyone, and improving answers.

What we collect and why

A random device ID

The first time your browser uses the tutor or practice, we store a random ID in a cookie called tgh_device. It is not your name, phone number or anything about you. We use it to save your practice answers and to count how many tutor messages your device has used today, so the daily limit is fair. It lasts up to two years, or until you clear your browser’s data.

Practice answers

When you answer a practice or mock exam question, we store your answer, whether it was correct, your score and the AI marker’s feedback (for Paper 2), the time, and your device ID. We use this to mark your work and show your progress.

Questions you ask the AI tutor

Your question, and the recent messages of that chat, are sent to our AI provider so it can answer, together with passages from the curriculum textbooks. We do not send your device ID or any account details with them. The opening question of a chat and its answer may be saved, without your device ID, so the same question can be answered faster for other students. Your chat history itself is kept only in your browser (see below), not on our servers. Please do not type personal details (your full name, phone number, address or school) into the tutor.

Answers you report

If you flag a tutor answer as wrong or unclear, we store the question, the answer, your reason, the subject and your device ID, so a teacher can review it and fix the cause.

Usage counts and your network address

We count tutor messages per device per day. To stop misuse (for example a program sending thousands of requests), we also count requests per network. For this we turn your IP address into a scrambled code that cannot be turned back into the address, and delete these counts within two days. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, including IP addresses, for a short time to run and secure the service.

App installs

If you install TutorGH on your phone, we record your device ID, the kind of device (Android, iPhone or computer), when it was installed and when it was last opened, so we know how many students use the app.

If you sign in with Google

When sign-in is available and you choose to use it, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. We use them to create your account, show who is signed in, and keep your progress across your devices. We never see your Google password, and we do not ask Google for anything else (not your contacts, files or emails). While you are signed in we keep a sign-in session (a random code, when it expires, and your browser type) so you stay signed in for up to 60 days; we do not keep your IP address or Google’s access codes with it.

Your profile

Signing in is optional. If you do sign in, we ask a few questions before you continue: your gender (you can choose “prefer not to say”), year of birth, school, class, course, the region of your school and how you heard about TutorGH; your elective subjects are optional. You can change your answers at any time on your profile page, or sign out and keep using TutorGH without an account. We use them to understand who uses TutorGH (for example, which regions and courses we reach) so we can improve it, and later to show you your own electives first. They are never sold, never shown to other students, and only counted together (for example “40 students from the Volta Region”) when we look at how TutorGH is used.

Visit statistics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics to understand how TutorGH is used: how many people visit, which pages they open, roughly where they are (country or city), and the kind of device and browser. It stores a random ID in cookies (named _ga) to recognise a returning browser. Google does not receive your name, email or what you type, and we have switched off Google’s advertising features (Google signals and ad personalisation), so visits are not linked to your Google account or used for adverts. You can block these cookies in your browser’s settings, or with Google’s opt-out add-on, and TutorGH will work the same.

What is stored only on your device

To work offline and remember your choices, TutorGH keeps some things in your browser’s storage, which we cannot see: your light or dark theme, your saved tutor chats, practice answers waiting to be sent when you are back online, whether you have seen the welcome tour, and when the installed app was last opened. Clearing your browser’s data for TutorGH removes them.

Who helps us run TutorGH

These service providers process information for us, only as needed to run TutorGH:

We may change providers to keep TutorGH running well; this page will list the ones we use.

What we do not do

How long we keep it

Students under 18

TutorGH is made for SHS students, many of whom are under 18. We collect as little as possible and do not need your name to work. If you are under 18, please talk to a parent, guardian or teacher about this policy, and ask them to contact us with any concerns.

Your rights

Under Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), you can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email yawfrancisodoom@gmail.com. Without an account we do not know who you are, so to find your practice answers we may ask roughly when and what you practised; clearing your browser’s data also unlinks your device from everything we hold. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission of Ghana.

Keeping it safe

TutorGH is only served over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Teacher pages are password protected, network addresses are stored only in scrambled form, and only the people who run TutorGH can access the database.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top. See also our terms of use.
